In part one of this series on “What God has to do with America” (link) we discussed the very early commitment that the first Europeans to arrive in America made to the God of the Universe. Now let’s discuss what happens when those early pronouncements are set aside.
“And you shall grope at noonday, as a blind man gropes in darkness; you shall not prosper in your ways; you shall be only oppressed and plundered continually, and no one shall save you.”
The judgements are clear, specific, and include, madness, blindness, and confusion of heart.
Madness: We know our country is riddled with mental health issues. The MHA 2021 report shares that across-the-board America is facing a mental health crisis of all ages, nationalities, genders, and other socioeconomic factors. This is an indicator that God has allowed us to reap what we’ve sown into. We acknowledge that mental illness is real and requires medical attention. We pray that all American’s suffering from mental illness find help through both medical and spiritual resources.
Blindness: Note a physical blindness, we are blind (clueless) to the ways and will of God and clearly ignorant about what is good and positive for our society. A few examples include:
Local libraries celebrating Drag queen story hours for preschoolers.
Judge Brett Blomme, father of 2 adopted children, former Pres./CEO of LGBTQ “Cream City Foundation”, financial supporter of DQSH, gets arrested for 7 counts of child pornography and abusing children.
Nickelodeon promoting a Drag Queen show and LGBTQ lifestyle for the month of June.
The San Francisco Gay Choir is singing about coming after and converting our kids and promoting it on social media.
This behavior is forbidden by scripture [Romans 1:18-32]. We have become blind to what is good for our children. Current culture is now blaming people today for the sins of others, hundreds of years ago, though it is also forbidden by scripture [Ezekiel 18:1-32]. We are blind to what brings unity and harmony. Godless Democratic Marxists are pitting races against each other, destroying the nuclear family and lawful order in the names of justice, equity, and inclusion. This ‘Cancel culture’ and ‘woke-ism’ are contrary to biblical truths of redemption, personal responsibility, and holy living.
Confusion of heart: exemplified by idolizing sex, rebelling against God’s ways, and committing to selfish desires which is destroying our families and our youth.
When Justice Kennedy decided to cast the deciding vote in 2015 to desecrate God’s covenant of Biblical marriage by legalizing gay marriage we plunged further into confusion to the point where having a Biblical world view makes a believer a “bigot, fascist, and a hater.”
The fact is that our confusion about sexuality and gender is destroying our families and our children.
When a nation breaks covenant with God, madness of mind, blindness of spirit and confusion of heart takes over. That is why we are where we are as a country and a Church.
God, our only hope
Wake up “And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” Romans 13:11
It is time to pay attention and understand the times, know what is wrong and why, and educate ourselves. Read your Bible and your newspaper. Read your newspaper through the lens of scripture and not vice versa. Remember Scripture is our authority, not culture.
Return to the Lord “Now, therefore,” says the LORD, “turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” So, rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.” Joel 2:12-13
God will heal our land if repent and return to Him, our first love.
Speak the Truth “Instead speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” Ephesians 4:15
We must speak the truth in love if we are to grow in our walk as believers. Truth and love are rooted in the word of God, not in culture. We can only speak the truth in love in meaningful relationships. Get to know the people around you. Be a person who is respected and known, so you can speak into their lives about difficult but critical issues with eternal consequences.

Friends, in case you haven’t noticed; it takes courage to be a true follower of Jesus Christ! As the great Chief Justice Antonin Scalia so eloquently shared, “Have the courage to have your Christian wisdom regarded as stupidity. Be fools for Christ. And have the courage to suffer the contempt of the sophisticated mind.”
